About the comedians:
John Robertson
John Robertson is a stand-up comedian and author, born in Perth Western Australia – and is also a children’s author, improviser, actor, videogame writer, puppeteer, ukulele player and all round manic hurricane man.
Robertson began his stand-up career in 2002, and upon moving to the United Kingdom, after developing his stand-up career, he debuted at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2010 with his solo show “A Nifty History of Evil”. He has since performed at the Edinburgh Fringe every year since, often in parallel to his live-action video game stand-up show “The Dark Room”.
Robertson has performed in venues as large as the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham as part of the Insomnia Gaming Festival, and at the London Film and Comic Con and MCM London Comic Con. Robertson also performs at established comedy venues nationally and internationally – alongside streaming via his Twitch channel, gathering more than 10,000 followers over the pandemic.
“★★★★ his material is edgy, intelligent and smoothly-delivered… this is astute, amoral stand-up for the morbidly inclined” – The Age, Melbourne
“A manic and quick-witted revelation… if you only see one Perth-born set this year, make it John Robertson.” – The Scotsman
“a ridiculously entertaining hour” – Kate Copstick, Edinburgh Fringe Reviewer
“★★★★★ – if your tastes run to the dark, you must see this show – British Comedy Guide
★★★★ “stylish, alternative, funny” – Chortle
“Brilliant, bemusing and bloodthirsty” – Metro
Ben Van Der Velde
Ben Van der Velde is a stand-up comedian, actor, improviser and presenter, who has spread joy and nonsense to all four corners of the UK. He has amassed a few residencies as an MC; most notably at Really Lovely Comedy, the Free Beer Show and Cloud Comedy in the past, and currently hosts HahaComedy in Peterborough and CKP’s comedy night at St James’ Theatre in London. He has featured alongside acts such as Omid Djalili, Reginald D. Hunter, Sarah Millican, Jim Jefferies and Andrew Maxwell.
"A sharp and crafty gagsmith, with wittily obtuse takes on...an impressively wide range of topics...bringing flair and confidence to them all. " - Steve Bennett, Chortle
Danny Deegan
With the confidence and swagger that you might expect of a North-West comedian at the very top of his game, Danny Deegan is a comedian, writer and actor who has become a regular at most of the major comedy clubs in the UK since he began performing in 2003.
Danny’s tales of mischief and the characters he creates have kept audiences all over the country enthralled as he weaves in and out of the people he has met traveling. His talent and likability coupled with his confidence make him one of the most popular acts in the North, a master at dealing with a tough crowd, and an act that promoters always turn to when booking gigs.
Away from live work, Danny has made several radio appearances, from being a guest on Radio GMR to having his own show “Afternoons with Danny Deegan” on CAT FM in Crewe, whilst his TV credits include appearances on “Made in the North” and “The Adam and Shelley Show” to name but two. Danny has also also provided tour support for Chris Ramsey, Mick Foley, Dave Spikey & Paul Sinha as well as performing in Switzerland.
“Deegan has a mature confidence in his abilities” – Chortle
“Charming, witty and most importantly funny” – Metro
“Blisteringly funny comedy that left us all breathless and aching” – BSH Magazine
Nik Coppin
A stand-up comic for more than 20 years, Nik Coppin has performed all over the world and developed an international cult following. He has performed many solo shows at the Edinburgh and Adelaide Fringe Festivals, New Zealand and Melbourne International Comedy Festivals, all over Australia and the inaugural Hollywood Fringe Festival in Los Angeles, all to critical acclaim.
As well as becoming one of the most professional acts on the comedy circuit, his versatility has also made him a much sought-after compere. He has the ability to adapt to a multitude of audiences and is skilful, observant and affable enough immediately put them at ease.
